Welcome Barbecue

The welcome barbecue will be a casual affair open to everyone and will be held at a chalet in Alpine Haven, a grouping of chalets located 10 minutes south of Jay Peak. We're aiming to get things started around 6:00 p.m. The only stipulation is that all guests should wear a hat of some sort. Sophisticated or creative hats are encouraged, and prizes will be awarded to our favorites. Here are some inspirational shots...you get the idea.

Directions and Transportation: Alpine Haven is 10 km south-west of the Jay Peak resort on route 242. For those that don't want to drive there will be a shuttle from the tram haus lodge at the beginning and end of the barbecue.
Here are some ideas to get your creative juices flowing:

Registry

We have received several e-mails asking where we are registered, so we thought we'd be helpful. We are registered at The Bay and Design Within Reach.

The Bay
The registry can be accessed by clicking here: The Bay

Design Within Reach
We have contacted a sales representative at the Toronto Design Within Reach to arrange for a registry. DWR arranges gift certificates for guests.

After all, 'Anybody can make a toaster toast. Very few people can make a toaster something you covet.' – J Mays

The contact person in Toronto is:

Of course, the registries are just suggestions, so don't feel confined by them or bound to get us anything at all. Your company at the festivities will be more than enough.

Hotel Update

Hi again everyone,
We have received the rates from the brand new Tram Haus Lodge at Jay Peak and wanted to pass on some of the info so you can continue planning for the weekend. The new hotel has 57 studio, 1- and 2- bedroom suites as well as a lone 3 bedroom (first come first served). Each unit comes with a kitchenette, fireplace and a living room area, which typically includes a pullout couch. There probably won't be many other people at the resort that weekend since it is still low season, but we still recommend booking sooner rather than later. The hotel staff has put together a few packages with a group rate for us and they will be able to explain all the options and amenities to you when you call and mention our names and the date. Here is the link to the Jay Peak hotel page on the resort website, where you can find some photos of the hotel and some more details about the rooms:

We are organizing an optional golf tournament or trip to Shelburne museum that should both start around 10 am on Friday, so those of you that can free up your schedules and make it a long weekend are encouraged to book in at the hotel from Thursday night through to Sunday. On Friday night there is an out of towner barbecue that is open to everyone, so try to make it down early on Friday if Thursday night isn't possible. We recommend that you stay in the Tram Haus Lodge as this is where the reception will be taking place on Saturday night, but there are other options available either on the mountain itself or in one of the many private chalets that are available for rent around Jay Peak. However, bear in mind that there are no taxis, etc., so getting around will be difficult, especially after the reception festivities.

To book your rooms at the lodge, please call the reservation desk (1-800-451-4449) and mention that you are a guest at the Peters/Hall-Martin wedding.

Once again, please let us know if you have any questions.

Welcome

So instead of using a pre-packaged wedding website, Jo and and I have decided to go the blog route. We'll do our best to include all the information that you could possibly need to help you plan your weekend in Jay Peak. Check back often for updates and don't hesitate to contact Jeff or Jo with any questions about the details of the wedding. We look forward to seeing you there.

Getting to Jay Peak

Jay Peak is located close to the Canadian border in Northern Vermont. We feel that it will be a great setting for the wedding and can't wait for all of our guests to experience the mountain and its surroundings.

Getting to Jay is fairly straightforward. The resort webpage has specific directions for all modes of travel here. Those arriving by air should probably fly to Montreal (YUL) and rent a car or catch a ride down to Jay (the drive from Montreal is approximately 2-2.5 hours). Alternatively there are flights into Burlington that could save having to cross the border, although you will still need to drive at least an hour to get to the mountain.

Of course, we would be happy to help with any specific questions about travel arrangements, so feel free to contact us and we'll help as best we can.

Itinerary

Friday, June 18th:
We are organizing two optional activities for Friday for those that are able to get down to Jay on Thursday night.

Golf at Jay Peak Resort: We are organizing a best ball tournament with tee times starting at 9:30 a.m. Green fees of ~$60 including cart rental and a boxed lunch will apply. The tournament course at Jay was designed by Graham Cooke and measures almost 7000 yards as it winds through the mountain scenery. For more details click here. We will be organizing the foursomes, so please let us know as soon as possible if you are interested in playing.

Day trip to Shelburne Museum: Shelburne boasts one of the most impressive collections of american folk art in the U.S. Shelburne is just south of Burlington and is a 1.5 hour drive from Jay Peak. We are hoping to organize a group tour of the museum for all that are interested. Transportation will not be provided, but Roger and Sandra will be co-ordinating the visit and will be organizing car pooling depending on how many guests are interested.  Please email Roger Hall (hallmartin@sympatico.com) if you are interested in attending.

Saturday, June 19th:
3 p.m. ceremony, followed by champagne toast in the Hazen's Notch Meadow
6 p.m. cocktails at the Tram Haus Lodge, Jay Peak
Dinner, Dancing, etc. to follow at Alice's Table
